Love for the community

Colleagues said that Bergevine was a tremendous colleague and offered so much to the community, which he loved.

"He had a really track record," Cook said. "In terms of city finances he was right on top of things. He really knew the city finances and was integral player in my mind to really improve relationship with the business community and help the council to try to reach out and help businesses."

Bergevine not only served two terms as an Attleboro city councilor, he also served on the Attleboro School Committee and Planning Board.

"My family and I are truly heartsick to hear the news of Councilor  Bergevine's passing," said City Councilor Elect Jonathan Weydt. "Like the good people of Attleboro, we will hold the Bergevine family in our thoughts, prayers and respect their privacy during this grievous time."

Smile to never forget

While Bergevine took his responsibilities as a councilor very seriously, he also had a great sense of humor and was personable, according to Cook. "He had a smile that would light up the room, was very personable and a good story teller. Bill was one of these people who was a wonderful family man and person who really loved the city."

"It is with a heavy heart hearing of Bill's passing this morning," said Audry Fontneau of the Attleboro Animal Shelter. "He was a wonderful man, dedicated and quite funny. He was truly one of the "good ole boys. My heart goes out to Claudia and his family."
