State Rep. Candidate Plans Official Announcement

Swansea School Committee member A. Keith Carreiro is the lone Democrat seeking to represent the 4th Bristol District, which includes Seekonk and a portion of Norton.

A. Keith Carreiro has been an official candidate for the 4th Bristol District seat in the state House of Representatives for a couple months, but he will make the formal announcement about his candidacy on Wednesday evening at a farm in Rehoboth.

Carreiro, a Harvard-educated teacher and member of the Swansea School Committee, is a Democrat seeking to unseat . There are no other candidates in the contest, so the men do not have to worry about a primary, just the general election in November.

The 4th Bristol District includes Seekonk, Rehoboth, two Norton precincts and portions of Swansea. Howitt  as the district's representative in 2010 when he defeated Democratic incumbent Stephen D'Amico.

Carreiro's campaign spokesman wrote in a press release that he has chosen to announce his candidacy at Rosasharn Farm in Rehoboth as a symbol of "the potential of local economies in food and clean energy; a major theme in his candidacy."

"In addition to promoting local food, local businesses and local economies, Carreiro's other main issues are protecting our environment, excellence in education and providing greater honor to our veterans," the release states. "Carreiro's son, daughter and son-in-law have recently returned from military service in Afghanistan and Iraq."
