Should the City Buy Land off Handy St.?

Attleboro is applying for a grant from the state to help purchase land off Handy St. Would it be a worthwhile purchase?

The City of Attleboro is drafting a grant application to the state to buy 77 acres of land off of Handy St., according to a report in the Sun Chronicle last week.

The purchase, if executed, would mean Attleboro would have nearly 500 acres of open space total, according to the report. The new land would be used for hiking and outdoor recreation, as well as a sanctuary for wildlife.

According to the Sun Chronicle, the grant could yield up to $400,000.

What do you think, Attleboro? Is this a worthwhile purchase for the city?
