Former Seekonk High Athlete Is Town's New Recreation Director

Bridget Garrity was hired by Board of Selectmen members during Wednesday night's meeting.

Seekonk has a new leader for adolescent amusements and summertime diversions.

Bridget Garrity was hired as the town's new recreation director during Wednesday night's Seekonk Board of Selectmen meeting. She graduated from Seekonk High School; during her time there she broke a school record in shot put. She now coaches for the Seekonk Warriors Junior Football and Cheerleading program.

"I love working with children. I don't have any of my own, so I can give everything I can," she said to board members, noting the town is in need of a recreation center.

While the recreation department focuses on children's activities, adults can partake too, she said. She suggested adult softball as a popular sport for adults.

Former director Ashley Pimental left the post for a full-time position at Seekonk Human Services. The job is a 19.5-hour position.

Member Francis Cavaco said the process in which Garrity was hired did not follow protocol; he abstained from voting on her hire. Members Dave Parker and Bill Rice approved a motion to hire her. Members John Whalen and Bob McLintock were not present at the meeting.
