Raymond Grant and Douglas Brown were appointed to the vacant positions.

Following the of Dr. William Brown and Gale Nunes from the Board of Health, two new members were appointed to fill their vacancies.

Raymond Grant, whose qualifications include a degree in nursing and previous work at both Memorial Hospital in Rhode Island and Children’s Hospital Boston, was appointed to fulfill the remainder of Dr. Brown's term. Grant has been a resident of Seekonk for 45 years.

Douglas Brown, whose qualifications includes previous experience as a United States Navy Hospital Corpsman as well as his current status as a licensed practical nurse, was appointed to fulfill the remainder of Nunes’ term.

“I want to serve my community,” said Brown, a lifelong resident of Seekonk.

Ralph Travers was also considered for an appointment, but Brown and Grant were preferred due to their medical backgrounds.

“I think it’s wonderful to have people come forward who are qualified,” said Town Administrator Pamela Nolan.

Both appointments were approved unanimously by the Board of Selectmen, including Francis Cavaco and Bob McClintock, who currently serve on the Board of Health.

Chairman Dave Parker said that this was not an ethical violation according to the town’s legal counsel because appointments to the Board of Health are not items that are under the purview of the Board of Health.

“We are not in violation of anything legally,” Parker said.

Both appointments are effective immediately.
