Seekonk at Low Risk for West Nile Virus

According to the Massachusetts Department of Health, the town is designated a low risk area for the virus transferred by mosquitos.

According to the Seekonk Board of Health officials, Seekonk has been designated a low risk area for West Nile virus.

It's recommended to wear pants and long sleeves during dawn and dusk, peak times for mosquitos. Use of insect repellent containing DEET is also recommended though not on children under two-months-old. Outdoor activities are scheduled as usual.

The Bristol Country Mosquito Project was scheduled to spray in Seekonk, according to a Board of Health press release. They avoid certain areas in town such as farms.

According to Sanitarian Beth Hallal, the detection of mosquitos is an annual occurrence. When cold weather hits, the insects die out.

Representitives from the Bristol County Mosquito Project did not return phone calls on Wednesday.
