State Gives Money to Fix Seekonk's 'Most Dangerous' Intersection

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation will help defray the cost of design plans.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (DOT) will help fund plans to redesign the intersection at the corner of Arcade Avenue and Route 114A, according to a press release sent from State Rep. Steven Howitt's office. The intersection is considered one of the most dangerous in the state.

The project's design plans, estimated to cost $214,000, was contracted to the engineering firm of Greenman, Pederson, Inc. Initially the cost was intended to be paid with the Town of Seekonk’s Chapter 90 funds, reads the release; about $50,000 of town funds were spent on the project.

Selectmen Francis Cavaco and Bob McLintock contacted Rep. Howitt, who then scheduled a meeting with Massachusetts DOT, reads the release.

“I’m thrilled to help the town in any way possible. It just shows how much can be accomplished when state and local government work together on these kinds of issues," said Rep. Howitt.
