Rival Offers Seekonk Selectmen Chair a Rosy Apology

Carol Bragg says she had failed to see the goodness and kindness in Francis Cavaco. She presents him with a rose and apologies.

Former Seekonk Selectwoman Carol Bragg offered an olive branch in the form of a rose to Board of Selectmen Chair Francis Cavaco on Wednesday. She apologized for being insensitive toward his feelings in the past and said she no longer harbored ill will toward him.

Speaking during the Community Speaks portion of the selectmen meeting, Bragg noted that she and Cavaco have had a strained relationship.

"I have been careless of your feelings and insensitive," she said. "And because I'm committed to a kinder and gentler community, I feel I need to apologize to you for that."

She added, "I have failed to see the goodness, the kindness in you. And I think there are other people in the community who have too. I want to apologize for that."

Bragg also said she had "harbored a lot of anger" toward Cavaco and Selectman Dave Parker regarding the issue of temporary signs. She has cleansed herself of that sentiment.

"I realized that anger does me absolutely no good," Bragg said. "And I'm going to just get rid of it. So I want to say to both of you, I no longer harbor any ill will toward either of you on the question of signs."

Bragg concluded her presentation by handing a rose to Cavaco that she said symbolizes "love, beauty, joy—a giving of oneself to a higher purpose."

After receiving the flower, Cavaco said, "Carol, I want to thank you and I accept your apology, and I'm looking forward to working with you."

Selectman Gary Sagar added, "Ms. Bragg, that was a class act."
