Rep. Howitt and Speaker Deleo Tour Local Horse Farms

The politicians will meet horse industry businesses and discuss their Impact on the Massachusetts economy.

Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo and State Representative Steven S. Howitt toured two horse farms in Rehoboth on Friday, May 20, to discuss the importance of the horse racing industry in the Commonwealth, according to a press release issued by Statehouse employee Jacob Ventura.

Representative Howitt invited Speaker DeLeo to visit his district and take several tours with local farmers. According to Ventura, the politicians visited Briar Hill Farm and Overnite Farm, both in Rehoboth.

"We chose these two farms because of their direct relation to the horse racing industry and economic impact they have in the Commonwealth. The tour and briefing will discuss not only the jobs that these farms provide directly, but various other ancillary businesses have been invited as well," said Ventura in an e-mail. "Rep Howitt wanted to bring the Speaker down to the district to give him a firsthand view of the farms, the jobs that they provide, and the role they play in Rehoboth and the district."
