Power Fully Restored in the 'Boro

After seven days without power, the lights are back on for all residents in Attleboro.

As of today, Saturday, September 3, 2011, at 4:50 p.m., I am pleased to report that ALL known National Grid issues have been resolved in the City of Attleboro.  Accordingly, I am standing down the ) as of this time.

It is important to note, however, that some residents may continue to experience short-term temporary power outages as National Grid finalizes its restoration process.

The EOC was staffed by key members of every City Department, and has handled over 5,000 telephone calls and dispatched services City wide. In addition, the City established three emergency centers: first at Attleboro High School, followed by a City staffed emergency service center at LaSalette Shrine and then a third at Fire Headquarters.

Finally, and at all times, police and fire services remained fully operational under emergency power along with water and sewer services.

As I have stated repeatedly, I believe National Grid was ill prepared for this storm.  I have met personally with Marcy Reed, President of Massachusetts National Grid. During that meeting, I expressed my extreme frustration with the responsiveness and inadequate communication from National Grid’s management team.  However, I applaud all of the National Grid Forestry and Line Crews who were on the street working non-stop to bring power back to us.

I want to again take this opportunity to thank the City’s emergency crews, employees and the many volunteers that have put in countless hours in the effort to keep our City safe and maintain basic services. Most of all, I want to thank our residents and local businesses for their patience and concern for their neighbors.

Sincerely,

Mayor Kevin J. Dumas
