Murphy, Zito, Shockroo Qualify for Fall's City Election

With about two and a half weeks remaining to qualify for this fall's municipal elections, some races are beginning to shape up while others are slow to develop.

This week, incumbent David Murphy became the second At-Large school committee candidate to qualify for the ballot. Murphy joins former Ward 2 school committee member Jim Stors as an official candidate in the race. Seven others (Mariann Crisafulli, Barbara Craw, Nancy Lamothe, Stacey Haven, Sarah B. Curtis, Julienne Singer and Jim Burns) have pulled papers but have yet to qualify.

Murphy said at last month's Attleboro Republican Committee candidate "Meet and Greet" that he hopes to foster a "forward-thinking" vision for the school committee.

Frances Zito also qualified for the ballot this week.

Zito, the incumbent for the Ward 5 School Committee seat, is the only candidate to qualify in that race so far. Laura Dolan and Nancy Lamothe have also pulled papers.

Zito told Attleboro Patch in a voicemail that she did not originally intend to run for the seat but public support caused her to change her mind.

City Clerk Betty Shockroo also qualified for re-election this week. She is running unopposed.
