Meet Mark Cooper, Attleboro's Newest City Councilor

Mark Cooper garnered 211 votes during a special election to win a seat on the Attleboro City Council.

It was a long, but exciting day for Attleboro's newest city councilor, Mark Cooper. Just minutes after being told he had won the special election for the Ward Two Attleboro City Council seat vacated by George Ross, now a state legislator, Cooper raced to on Tuesday night.

An elated Cooper, who had been up since 5 a.m., said he was excited to have finally won a seat on the council.

After months of campaigning for the seat, Cooper won the election with 211 votes, while his opponent Richard Correia garnered 162 votes. It was a low voter turnout, considering Ward Two has more than 4,000 registered voters.

The weak turnout was disappointing, Cooper said, but expected given the special election.

Cooper will resign from his seat on the city's planning board.
