Mass House Passes Bill to Crack Down on Welfare Abuse

New law includes tracking EBT purchases and other reforms.

The state House of Representatives passed a $20 million welfare package aimed at stopping fraud and helping recipients find work. The bill passed unanimously on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

The bill would provide for tracking Electronic Benefit Transfer card purchases to make sure recipients bought approved food and other items. 

The house and state senate will go into committee to iron out the differences in each body's welfare bill. the senate version passed in June.
