Seekonk Library Budget Gets Small Increase

The recommended Seekonk Public Library holds a 1.6 percent budget increase.

The Board of Selectmen is recommending a budget increase of 1.6 percent for the for next year.

The budget increase covers step increases for employees’ salaries. The budget for services and programs will remain at its previous level.

“It will allow us to provide the services we are currently providing,” said Interim Library Director Peter Fuller.

The library had originally sought an increase in their budget to allow for 14 additional positional hours, but was told by Town Administrator Pamala Nolan that now was not a good time to seek an increase.

The library’s Board of Trustees then submitted a revised budget of $819,657 that did not include the additional hours.

“This is obviously not the budget we had hoped for, but it is a reasonable one,” said Fuller.

Fuller also said that this level of funding allows the library to remain certified and qualify for various state and federal grants.

“I think it’s remarkable that it’s such a small increase,” said Selectman Bill Rice.
