Jacob Street to be Reopened

After last April's floods wiped out part of Jacob Street, the road has been closed down forcing drivers to drive through adjacent roads. It should be open for traffic by the end of the week.

Drivers will soon be able to roll through Jacob Street without having to turn around after hitting a portion of the washed-out roadway.

Department of Public Works teams are working to replace cement and drainage systems in the road after it was damaged during last April's floods. Cement barriers have been blocking off traffic from the strip of road since the storm.

According to Superintendent of Public Works Robert Lamoureux, the road should be open by the end of the week. Originally, department employees thought Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) money would pay for some of the repairs. But after officials deemed a culvert, a type of overflow pipe, to be faulty Lamoureux was told the town would have to pay for repairs out of its budget.
