UPDATED: It's Official: Candidates in the Running for Board Seats

Board of Selectmen Chairman Bob Richardson decides to run for school committee instead of his current board seat.

Editor's Note: At the time this article was first posted, it was not reported that William Rice, a current member of the Planning Board, will be running for Board of Selectmen.

And the race is on. Monday, Feb. 14, at 5 p.m. was the deadline for local candidates to pass in their papers. To seal their spot on the ballot, candidates needed the signatures of 50 registered Seekonk voters.

One of the most surprising developments involves a shake-up on the Board of Selectmen. Current chairman Bob Richardson took papers out for both his current board and school committee, but returned papers only for school committee.

Board of Selectmen candidate John Turner, who originally was running in tandem with Richardson, dropped off his signatures close to 4 p.m. Monday.

"I was waiting for the last minute," said the incumbent, who won't be airing his sports show due to conflict of interest on TV9 Seekonk while the election plays out.

However, he said the friendly relationship will bode well for the selectmen and school committee if both men are elected to office.

"We've always had a good relationship," said Turner, noting communication could be enhanced on both boards.
