Hundreds Add to Mountain of Debris at Attleboro Compost Yard [VIDEO]

Some residents make multiple trips to the Attleboro Compost Center on Pond Street North.

Nearly 800 cars, trucks and minivans have gone through the Attleboro Compost Center on Pond Street in Attleboro since Tuesday to drop off trees and debris left over from Tropical Storm Irene. 

Edward Gingras of Attleboro had already made five trips to the Compost Center by 2 p.m. Thursday. Gingras, who was lugging branches from the three trees that fell in his yard, said he wished he still had his pick-up truck. 

Tony Sousa, who was without power for three days because of Irene, made multiple trips to the Compost Center to drop off bags full of branches.

"I have 15 bags in my yard still," he said. "I have a tree that is 5-feet wide and 10-feet long."

Gary Roberts of South Attleboro, who was still without power at 2 p.m. Thursday, took a half-day out of work to clear his yard of debris. Roberts planned to return to the Compost Center to drop off spoiled food.

The City of Attleboro has extended the Compost Center's hours of operation to 7 a.m. through 6 p.m. The center will be open until Monday, Sept. 5.
