Governor's Council Debate

The four candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for Governor's Council in the second Council district meet in a debate at the Morse Institute Library in Natick. There are 39 cities and towns in the second district, including Attleboro and Seekonk.

The four candidates seeking the nomination are Brian Clinton of Hyde Park, chief of staff for Boston City Councilor Rob Consalvo; Robert Jubinville of Milton, an attorney; Patrick McCabe of Hyde Park, an accountant and programmer; and Bart Timilty of West Roxbury, a mentor recruiter for the Norfolk County Reentry Mentor Program.

The debate will be moderated by Rick Holmes, opinion page editor of the MetroWest Daily News.

The 8-person Governor’s Council, also known as the Executive Council, is the oldest elected body in the Commonwealth, and predates statehood.  Its primary responsibility is to consider the Governor’s judicial nominees.  Each member of the council is elected to represent five senatorial districts; the Council is chaired by the Lieutenant Governor, who may vote to break a tie vote if necessary.

The second district seat has been vacant since the January 2012 death of Kelly Timilty, who was first elected in 1994.

“We are proud to host this important debate,” said Natick Democratic Town Committee chair Dylan Hayre.  “Voters should make an informed vote at the primary on September 6 and at the general election on November 6.”

“Governor’s Councilor is a very important elected position, and we are trying to give it a higher profile in this election cycle,” added Tom Mahoney, chair of the Framingham Democratic Town Committee.

Parking is available nearby the library, which is also convenient to the Natick Center MBMTA commuter rail station.  For more information, please see www.NatickDemocrats.org.
