Dumas Supporters Rally at Sensational Cookout

Mayor Kevin Dumas pushes toward the November Election with a summer cookout for supporters.

It was a family-oriented event with music, hamburgers, hotdogs and even a game of Civil War era baseball, but ultimately the Summer Sensational Cookout was a chance for Mayor Kevin Dumas's supporters to propel him to victory next November as he seeks re-election to a fifth term.

The event was free and open to the public, but donations of between $15 and $250 were accepted.

"The cookout hosted by Sue and Jody Blais along with Howard and Marcia Bibeault was designed to be a fundraiser with a casual atmosphere," said Dumas's Campaign Manager Joe Solis.

Solis said the Mayor has a new website.

"It encapsulates all of the Mayor's accomplishments over the years along with mapping out his vision for the next term," he said.

Susan Blais has been following Attleboro politics since she was 13 years old.  "I think that Kevin Dumas has done a fantastic job as Mayor and I just can't say enough good things about him."

Dumas took the opportunity to tout the City's sound financial condition.

"I'm extremely proud of the fact that we didn't have to lay off any municipal staff even in these difficult financial times," Dumas said.  "This was certainly not the case in many surrounding areas including the cities of Providence and Fall River."

Dumas pointed out that while other communities were making cuts to municipal services Attleboro was actually able to restore services to residents. "Since this past March the has been staffed around the clock with ambulance crews and paramedics," he said. "The city's financial condition is stable so we can provide these services."

Mayor Dumas thanked his supporters and called up Sen. James Timilty and Sen. Richard Ross  for a handshake and "thank you" at the microphone.

Attleboro City Counselor Brian Kirby pointed out the "endless energy" displayed by the Mayor. "He's a hands-on mayor, handling everything from setting up tables at the downtown or directing traffic", Kirby said.

Senator Timilty said that Mayor Dumas is his friend on a personal level and his friend in government. "His record here in the City speaks for itself and I think the world of him," he said.
