Operation Attleboro Care Packages Needs Support

City Hall employees begin collection for troops overseas.

The Attleboro Veteran Services Office is working with local veteran’s organizations, and a group of dedicated employees and officials collecting personal items, snacks, books and more for troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It's the fifth consecutive year that the group has been sending packages to Iraq and Afghanistan, according to Attleboro Veteran's Agent Carl Bradshaw. Last year more 1,300 pounds of merchandise was sent to overseas to troops.

The group of volunteers are contacting local businesses, schools and residents to join together to help with the monumental task. "Our goal is to commit to sending 60-plus care packages to Attleboro area soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan," Bradshaw said. "The cost of shipping is very high in a war zone and additional items may need to be purchased, so monetary donations are greatly appreciated."

The group is asking the community to notify Municipal Council Administrator Linda Alger if they know of a serviceman or servicewoman who is in Afghanistan or Iraq by emailing his or her APO address and he/she will be added to the list. Names should be sent via email to council@cityofattleboro.us or snail mail to Linda Alger, 77 Park St. Attleboro, MA02703.
