Contested Race on Tap for Ward 6 School Committee Seat

David Blessinger became certified for election last week, making the Ward 6 school committee election one of three contested races so far this year.

With approximately a week left for potential candidates to become certified for this fall's Attleboro city election, there are only three contested elections.

The Ward 6 school committee race is the most recent to become contested when David Blessinger was certified for election last week. The challenger will take on current school committee chair Michael Tyler, who was certified last month. Blessinger said at last month's candidate's night that one of his major goals would be improving technology in the schools.

Other contested races are the Ward 3 school committee race, which features Jessica Bessell and Stephen Withers Jr. Additionally, incumbent Mark Cooper and challenger Rick Correia are vying for the Ward 2 city council seat.

So far, no candidates have been certified for the Ward 1 school committee race. Both Shawn Moran and Pamela McGovern have pulled papers.

Other races are uncontested thus far - including the At Large races for school committee (David Murphy, Jim Stors and Barbara Craw have been certified to run for one of the three seats) and city council (James Dilisio, Richard Conti, Peter Blais, Brian Kirby and Heather Porreca have been certified for one of the five seats).

Potential candidates have until 5 p.m. July 30 to return nomination papers.
