City Moves Forward With Mill St., Capron St. Improvements

The City Council voted to fund Phase IIB of the Downstrate Streetscape Initiative this week.

The Attleboro City Council voted last week to fund Phase II of an infrastructure project that will result in improved streetscapes on Mill St. and Capron St.

The unanimous vote, which allocated $50,692 towards the project was taken as an "emergency measure" at the request of Mayor Kevin Dumas in order to begin improvements before the winter months.

Dumas asked for the vote as part of his communications with the council on Tuesday. The project is mostly funded by the Greater Attleboro Taunton Regional Transit Authority, which paid for $447,000 of the $497,000 project.

According to Dumas, Phase II of the project will include Mill St. improvements "extending between S. Main St. and Union, both sides of the street, and including replacement of the existing timber retaining wall and landscaping along the south side of Mill St. at the station. [It] also includes reconfiguration of south curb at Mill St. and S. Main St. to reduce the radius of the corner."

Capron St. improvements include "extending from S. Main St. to Union St. north side of the street only. Work to be done is to reset exsisting granit curb and a new cement sidewalks to meet existing conditions."
