Attleboro City Council to Consider Traffic Light at Rathburn-Willard and Thacher

The traffic issue in the area is not a new one, councilmen say.

The Attleboro City Council will be looking at the possibility of installing a traffic light at the intersection of Rathburn-Willard Dr. and Thacher St.

The new business was brought before the board Tuesday night by councilman Mark Cooper.

"For those traveling from Studley and Brennan trying to get out and into that intersection, it's an issue," Cooper said.

Cooper said he talked to the police chief and studies need to be conducted on the flow of traffic in the area.

Councilman Walter Thibideau, who will take on the issue as the head of the transportation and traffic committee, said the city attempted to address the issue in the past, but the project was held up at the state level.

Councilman Richard Conti, citing repeated attempts to address the traffic problem in the area, agreed that the issue needed to be addressed.

"When an item like this comes up as new business at a repetitive term after term, something needs to be done," he said.
