Attleboro Candidates Make an Early Case at 'Meet and Greet'

The countdown has officially begun.

With over four months until Attleboro's local elections, 31 Attleboro candidates took the stage at the South Attleboro American Legion Wednesday night to introduce (or re-introduce) themselves to the voters.

The bi-partisan event, held every election year at the beginning of the summer, was hosted by the Attleboro Republican Committee.

"Attleboro has a very active political community," Republican Committee President Howard Bibeault said. "The fact that you're all here is a testament to that."

Bibeault took the stage with vice chair Susan Blais to welcome the public. Attorney George Spatcher MC'd the "meet and greet." Candidates were given one and a half minutes to introduce themselves and another minute to answer a question that was pulled from a hat at the beginning of the night. Questions ranged from "What do you think is the most important challenge facing Attleboro today?" to "What makes Attleboro special," to "What is your favorite Attleboro public facility?"

So far, 48 people have pulled papers for an elected city office, city council or a school committee office. Seventeen of those candidates have been certified by the Attleboro elections office.
