ARA Presents Loan Repayment to City Council

A $683,100 check was presented to the city council by the ARA this week.

The Attleboro Redevelopment Authority has turned a corner financially, and members of the board looked to prove that to the City Council Tuesday night.

ARA members presented a check for $683,100 to the Attleboro City Council to repay a loan the city provided to bail the ARA out of financial woes in past years.

"It's so encouraging to see not only this check, but all the progress that has been made," City Council President Frank Cook told ARA Chair Judy Robbins.

The check comes to the city council after the ARA made a $1 million sale of the corner of Wall and S. Main St. last week for the construction of an apartment complex.

The ARA will continue progress downtown this week with the dedication of a new transportation building and busway at the Intermodal Transportation Center Thursday. Gov. Deval Patrick will be present for the event.

It will be the construction of a new sports complex in the Attleboro Industrial Park, though, that will finally bring the ARA out of the red.

The $2.3 million deal, announced in September, will allow for the construction of a indoor/outdoor sports complex and hotel on 110 acres in the park.
