Woman to Police: We Were Just Looking at Otters

A look at some of the more interesting police activity in Rhode Island recently.

Just Looking At Otters… A North Kingstown woman was arrested recently after police connected to Davisville Elementary School. When police pulled over the SUV, the driver allegedly told them she was just on the way to the store with her passenger to get “pickles and buns.” When police told her they saw her drive on the bike path, the woman explained that she and the passenger went there to “relax” and look at “otters.” The driver was charged with driving on a suspended license. The passenger was charged with possession after police found marijuana in the SUV.

Be Careful with the Needles…A Woonsocket man was after police saw him run a stop sign. Police allege that when the 25-year-old man got out of his vehicle, he began talking fast and incomprehensibly. Suspicious of drug activity, the officer conducted a search of the vehicle, but not before the man allegedly warned him to be careful of uncapped needles inside. Several needles were found, including one filled with heroin, along with one suboxone pill.

Broken Weapon for a Crutch…Another Woonsocket man was recently arrested on several charges after he too . Police allege that when they approached the vehicle of the 24-year-old man, they smelled the strong odor of marijuana inside. A search of the vehicle revealed a marijuana grinder, a glass pipe, an air gun magazine and a cane, which opened to reveal a 17 and a half inch double-bladed sword beside the driver's seat. The man told the officer that he used the cane to walk after a leg injury, but the officer observed the suspect had no noticeable limp and, furthermore, that the cover to the weapon would not stay on, leaving the "cane" in two pieces. The suspect reportedly told the officer that the cane had stopped closing just that day.
