Woman Killed in Main Street Crash from North Attleborough

Her identify has not been released. A Pawtucket man charged with vehicular homicide could appear in court today.

The woman killed in the  Thursday night on North Main Street between Wamsutta Road and Keith Drive was from North Attleborough, according to a news release from the Attleboro Police Department. The identity of the 24-year-old woman has not been released because police are still notifying the family.

The driver of the other vehicle, 32-year-old Jason Kwolek of Pawtucket, was arrested in Rhode Island on suspicion of motor vehicle homicide while under the influence of alcoholic beverages and operating negligently, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcoholic beverages, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding and a marked lanes violation.

"Kwolek was arrested at Rhode Island Hospital by Rhode Island State Police and charged with being a fugitive from justice based upon the Massachusetts charges," the Attleboro police release states. "If Kwolek waives rendition in Rhode Island, he will be returned to Massachusetts for arraignment as early as today."

Kwolek's medical condition is not known.

Attleboro police and fire responded to the scene of the crash at 10:27 p.m., according to the release. 

"Upon officers' arrival, they observed a two-car, head-on crash," the release states. "The operators and sole occupants of both vehicles had to be extricated from their vehicles by fire personnel."

Kwolek was driving a 2006 Jeep. The North Attleborough woman was driving a 2002 Saturn. 

"Preliminary investigation indicates that the Kwolek vehicle was travelling southbound on North Main Street and the Saturn was travelling north," the release states. "Investigation at the scene which included witness statements indicated that Kwolek's Jeep crossed over the center lines into the oncoming path of the Saturn."

The crash remains under investigation by Attleboro police, Attleboro police detectives and the Massachusetts State Police Accident Analysis Unit.
