Video: Briggs Station Celebrates New Engine and Rescue

The Attleboro Fire Dept. celebrated the official use of the Briggs Corner ALS engine and ambulance.

It was a proud day for Attleboro Fire Chief Scott Lachance and his men, who held the official ribbon cutting of Briggs Corner ALS (advanced life support) Engine Company and Rescue 4 on Friday.

"It's a tremendous achievement for the City of Attleboro," Lachance said of the new rescue that has been in use for approximately two weeks.

Brian Dubuc, an Attleboro firefighter and president of the union, said the chief came to him about putting an ALS rescue at Briggs some time ago and has since stepped up to the plate and turned the Emergency Management Services system into a mode that has become the number one EMS system in Bristol County.

"The mission of our business is saving lives and property," said Attleboro firefighter and union resident Brian Dubuc. "It's already making a difference and the chief needs to be commended for that," Dubuc said of the engine and rescue.

Ray Oberg and his wife, Marjory, who have lived in Attleboro for 32 years, attended the ceremony in support of the new engine and rescue and were happy that Mayor Kevin Dumas kept to his promise made eight years ago to not close the station.

"We appreciate the fact that the station is here and available for us," Ray Oberg said. "It's a wonderful feeling that if there is a problem, he'd be right over to assess the situation," he said of any of the firefighters at Briggs Station.

"A mile away is nothing," he continued. "But when they are in the middle of town, four miles away, it's a different story. I can speak for all of my neighbors when I say we are pleased to not only have fire protection but trained paramedics as well."

Fire Chaplain Rev. Ron Wheelock held a moment of silence in remembrance of 384 EMS personnel who died on 9/11 and asked children at the ceremony to help him bless the firetruck and rescue.
