Thacher St. Fire Sends Emergency Workers to Scene

The fire, which detoured traffic, is the second of the day for the Attleboro Fire Dept.

The Attleboro Fire Department was at work on Thacher St. Tuesday at approximately 3:30 p.m. for a structure fire.

The fire - which closed Thacher St. between Main St. and Lamb St. and detoured traffic for the afternoon - likely originated in the basement near the area of the furnace, Attleboro Fire Captain Steve Stellakis said.

Firefighters ventilated the first and second floor, which was full of heavy smoke, Stellakis said. The fire itself was put out within 10 minutes, he said.

He said the power was turned off at the house Tuesday evening causing it to be uninhabitable for the night.

The fire is the second of the day for the Attleboro Fire Department. Early Tuesday morning, six were displaced on West St. due to a fire that began in an apartment kitchen.
