Teen Held on Rape Charges in Attleboro
By Richard Hosford
A teenager currently living in Woburn is being held on bail on a rape charge in Attleboro.
According to a story in the The Sun Chronicle - Attleboro, Roberto A. Baez, 18, a current Woburn resident and former Attleboro resident, was arrested at the North Main Street courthouse in Attleboro after he turned himself after a warrant was obtained by police on July 1.
He was arrested on a charge of raping a 14-year-old girl that he knew at the Attleboro YMCA where he worked until last year. The incident allegedly took place in March in the YMCA's basement and was reported by the girl's mother on June 17.
Baez was ordered to be held on a $50,000 cash bail last Friday after appearing in court. Baez pleaded not guilty to the charge.
His attorney, Paul Whelan of Pawtucket, said his client is eager to fight the charges and believes video surveillance at the YMCA will help his case. Baez has no criminal record.
