Seekonk Resident Finds Overseas Check is Too Good to be True

A Seekonk counselor halted a scam attempt after she was mailed a fraudulent $3,450 check.

A Seekonk resident and mental health counselor who provides therapy sessions for patients avoided an attempted fraud scheme from a woman calling herself “Pam Anderson” from the United Kingdom.

The attempted scam began when the Seekonk counselor received an email from “Pam Anderson” asking for four therapy sessions and offering to pay in advance. The counselor thought the offer was odd, but she continued the dialogue out of curiosity. Next, a check arrived in the postal mail for $3,450. The Seekonk counselor was instructed to deposit the check into her bank account and then deduct the money for four sessions of therapy and send the $2,900 difference back across the Atlantic.

She took the check to her bank, discovered it was fraudulent and never mailed the money overseas. She then called Seekonk Police on May 23.
