Seekonk Reacts to Connecticut Tragedy

There was a police presence at Seekonk's elementary schools in the aftermath of the Connecticut school shooting.

Seekonk school district Interim Superintendent Arlene Bosco released the following statement to Seekonk Patch following the fatal mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school (go here to see the reaction from Attleboro):

I would like to update you on our response regarding the school tragedy in Connecticut. We have posted on the call alert system as well as the district website that the district has a solid crisis plan in place to address the security of students and staff. Our emergency plan is continually updated and is a collaborative endeavor with input from the police and fire departments.

In fact, we met as a team a few weeks ago to make sure that all was in order. Emergency personnel in the town are well versed in their responses in the district. Each school assures that staff are aware of the protocols and they regularly practice their responses. Although the events in Connecticut are rare, they do occur and we take care to be readied if needed.

I would like to personally thank Police Chief Ronald Charron and members of the Seekonk Police Department. They were present at both elementary schools at the close of school today. It was quite reassuring that they are such wonderful protectors of Seekonk residents.

We plan to meet as an administrative team Monday morning. Staff will be available to offer support and answer questions for students and parents.

Attached is a handout provided by Bosco from the National Association of School Psychologists that may be useful for parents.
