Police Charge East Providence Man With Drunk Driving Offense

On Saturday night, police charged Vernon Perry with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, drunk driving, driving over traffic lines and speeding.

According to a press release issued by the Seekonk Police Department, on Saturday, Dec. 4, at about 1:20 a.m., Patrol Officer Eric Chalifoux clocked a car traveling east on Taunton Avenue near Fall River Avenue at about 55 mph. The speeding limit in the area is 40 mph. 

After the car crossed over the solid double yellow center lines, Officer Chalifoux pulled over Vernon Perry, 52, of East Providence. Perry allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was charged with speeding, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, driving over traffic lines and drunk driving.

He was transported to the Seekonk Police Department for booking. His car, a 2001 gray Saturn, was impounded and towed to Seekonk Auto Body. He will be arraigned in Taunton District Court.
