Police Investigate Suspicious Driver

Around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, January 12, an officer parked near the Motel 6 on Fall River Avenue reportedly observed an older model Nissan Maxima with dark tinted windows. When the officer ran the plates, the result came up for a 1995 Buick, rather than the Nissan.

Later that night, at around 10 p.m. the officer returned to the Motel 6 and reportedly saw the Nissan pass by him as it was exiting the motel’s lot.

When the Nissan’s driver saw the police cruiser, the driver allegedly sped down Fall River Avenue and ran a red light before taking the on-ramp for I-195 W.

The officer followed the Nissan, but it was already a distance away as it was traveling at an estimated 90 miles per hour. The officer was unable to catch up and returned to the Motel 6.

A check with the Motel 6 staff identified the driver, who police discovered had no existing warrants.

On Tuesday, January 10, and Sam’s Club employees reported that someone attempted to break into their stores’ exterior auto battery recycling area.

At 5:15 a.m., a Walmart employee showed Seekonk Police that someone had cut the cage containing the batteries and entered it. A delivery man who was arriving at the store earlier said he saw a U-Haul truck backed up to the cage and that it left when they saw him.

A 5:55 a.m., a Sam’s Club employee told police they saw three men, who also had a U-Haul truck, near the exterior battery storage area. One hundred-fifty used car batteries were reportedly stolen.

The fence to the battery cage was also cut and a security camera was moved to point upward, away from its original position facing the battery cage.

The batteries are valued at $15 to $20 each.
