The investigation continues of the tragic incident on Sunday in which a man was killed and girl was severely injured while crossing a Whitman street when, authorities and witnesses say, they were struck by a pickup truck driven by an Attleboro man.
WCVB in Boston reported Monday that authorities had questioned and released the truck driver, 46-year-old Richard Brown. His cellphone was seized and the RMV has suspended his drivers license indefinitely, according to the WCVB. No charges have been filed.
WHDH in Boston reported that witnesses said the man who was killed, 38-year-old Edward Cordwell Jr., pushed the 4-year-old girl out of the way as the truck approached them. The girl, who is in serious but stable condition, is his girlfriend's daughter, according to WHDH.
"I think this guy's an actual hero because it could have been two people killed," said Whitman Fire Chief Tim Grenno, according to WHDH.
The crash happened in front of the fire chief's home.
