VIDEO: Fire Breaks Out in Chardonnay's Restaurant

The ignition allegedly started in a heating vent above the grill.

The parking lot of Chardonnay's Restaurant, a popular Seekonk establishment, was filled with rescue trucks as firefighters put out a small fire at approximately 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The fire started in a heating vent over the cooking station; damage was isolated to an exterior wall of the building, according to Fire Chief Alan Jack. There were no injuries.

"We aren't sure how it happened ... But it was a small fire confined to the grills and outside walls," the chief said.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames that built up near the kitchen's heating hood. A large fan wafted out smoke from the restaurant's interior, where there was no permanent damage.

Kitchen staff were the first to notice something was wrong. They quickly alerted the owner, Al Castiglioni, and assistant general manager, Andrew Kelley, who then pulled the fire alarms.

"[Firefighters] were here in minutes," Kelley said.

While firefighters packed up gear and loaded up the trucks, Castiglioni wasn't sure if the establishment would open later in the day.
