FBI Report: Violent Crime Down in Attleboro

How much violent crime was reported in Attleboro last year?

Attleboro reported less violent crime last year than in previous years, according new statistics released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

According to the report, 142 violent crimes were reported in 2012. The number is down from 168 in 2011 and 152 in 2010.

The FBI's annual Uniform Crime Report includes information submitted by local law enforcement agencies. The information is compiled and released to the public in the fall of the year that follows the reported year. Violent crime, as defined by the report, includes murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.

Attleboro's 142 violent crimes last year ranks 32nd amongst cities and towns in the Bay State. Not surprisingly, Boston tops the list with 5,266 violent crimes. The top five is rounded out by Worcester, Springfield, Brockton, and New Bedford.

Attleboro reported the 12th most violent crimes amongst towns with less than 50,000 people. Barnstable, Chelsea, Everett, Fitchburg, Holyoke, Leominister, Pittsfield, Salem, Wareham, W. Springfield and Yarmouth all reported more violent crimes than Attleboro.

According to the statistics, no murders were reported in Attleboro in 2012. Other crimes included 19 forcible rapes, 23 robberies, 100 aggrevated assaults, 245 burglaries, and 753 instances of larceny or theft.

There were 1,062 property crimes reported in Attleboro in 2012.
