Driver Cited in Crash Injuring 4-Year-Old

An East Providence woman has been cited for her alleged role in that sent three people, including a 4-year-old boy, to the hospital with injuries.

Tammy Webster of East Providence was traveling northbound on South Main Street near Seanna Road at approximately 10:15 a.m. when she drove into the oncoming lane to avoid a bicyclist, said Sgt. Arthur Brillon of the . This caused her vehicle to collide head-on with a southbound vehicle driven by Maria Rocha of Attleboro.

One of the vehicles caught fire, which was quickly extinguished by firefighters at the scene.

Webster, Rocha and a 4-year-old boy in Webster's car were sent to the hospital with unspecified injuries that were not life-threatening, Brillon said.

The boy had been sitting unrestrained in the front seat, Brillon said. State law requires children under 8 to be secured in a child passenger restraint unless the child is taller than 57 inches.

Webster was cited on suspicion of driving with an improperly restrained child and a marked lane violation.
