Changes Planned for Grist Mill Intersection

A project set to begin in 2014 is expected to make the notorious intersection safer.

The intersection next to the site of that led to the destruction of the is expected to get a facelift for safety, WPRI in Providence reported. The $2.8 million project, which will include the installation of a traffic light and the alteration of the intersection from a y-shape to a t-shape, is expected to start in 2014.

WPRI reported:

For years, residents have complained about the hazard of where Fall River Avenue, Arcade Avenue and Mill Road intersect. There have been between 30 and 40 car accidents at that corner [every year] ...

"It's crazy. If you watch for any period of time, you will see nobody really knows what direction to go in or who has the right of way. And that's really, I guess, the problem," said Greg Esmay, owner of the Old Grist Mill Tavern.

The project will be funded with state and federal money.
