Attleboro Opens Emergency Operations Center

The following is an edited press release from the city of Attleboro regarding the opening of an emergency operations center and other storm-related information:

In light of the snow storm, Mayor Kevin Dumas has announced that as of 6 p.m. today, the city's emergency operations center will be opened. Mayor Dumas, Police Chief Heagney and Fire Chief Lachance have been meeting throughout the day in regards to the snow storm.  

The EOC is located at the Attleboro Police Station and can be reached by calling 508-223-2275. Residents experiencing a medical, fire or police emergency should dial 911.

The EOC is staffed by personnel consisting of police dispatchers, police officers and other city employees. City of Attleboro departments who are represented in the EOC include the Fire Department, Police Department, Public Works, Forestry, Inspections and a representative from National Grid.

It is anticipated that at least some of the city's 19,000 electric customers will experience outages which could last for some time. By having National Grid represented in the EOC, it is hoped this will minimize the length of any outages. Residents experiencing an outage should call National Grid at 800-322-3223.

An emergency shelter has been open since 12 p.m. today. The shelter is located at the La Salette Shrine on Park Street. Domestic pets are allowed at the shelter provided you bring a travel cage. Anyone who brings a pet should bring ample food, feeding bowls and other necessities for the pet.

Residents are asked to clear away snow from fire hydrants. Residents are reminded that they should not push or throw snow into the roadway.  Residents are reminded that the anticipated strong winds will bring down tree limbs and possibly wires. Residents should assume all wires brought down by the storm are electrified and should not be touched.
