Attleboro Teen Arrested and Charged with Animal Cruelty

The Attleboro Police Dept. and Attleboro Animal Control Officer responded to a case of animal cruelty Sunday.

One Attleboro teenager will face a judge today after he and two other teenagers were allegedly seen leaving the area where a goose was found lying motionless.

The Attleboro Police Department arrested and charged Shawn Timas, 18, of 60 Brookhave Dr., with animal cruelty, disturbing the peace, giving the police a false name and obstruction of justice/misleading an investigation.

Police Officers Stephen Graney and Gil Bechtel and Sgt. James MacDonald responded to 80 Brookhave Dr. after receiving reports of teenagers who may have injured a goose. When the officers arrived, they found three teenagers leaving the area and an adult goose lying motionless.

Witnesses told police they saw one of the three males chasing the goose, according to a statement by the Attleboro Police Department.

"The male then threw an object at it at which time the goose fell to the ground and began twitching and flopping on the ground," Det. Sgt. Art Brillon said in a statement.

A witness told police the teens were watching the goose twitch and flop and were laughing.

Timas admitted to kicking the goose, but claimed the goose had attacked him, police said. Witnesses, however, said that was not accurate.

The Attleboro Animal Control Department confirmed that the goose had died as a result of his injuries and the Massachusetts Environmental Police were notified.

The two 15-year-old teenagers with Timas were not charged.

Timas was held on $5,000.00 cash bail. He will be arraigned in Attleboro District Court.
