UPDATE TWO: Eight Attleboro Students Found with Drugs During Random Search by Police

Attleboro PoliceK-9 unit and officers searched lockers at Attleboro High School this morning.

The Attleboro Police K-9 unit and other officers searched through lockers at Attleboro High School this morning looking for drugs, according to Attleboro Police Det. Sgt. Art Brillon. Seven students were found in possession of marijuana and given a $100 citation, one student was in possession of a prescription narcotic and will be going to Attleboro District Court at a later date and one student was in possession of alcohol, according to police. 

 The search, coordinated by Attleboro High School Resource Officer Robert Hale and the APD's K-9 handler, Officer Keith Bussiere, was done randlomly. The last search of this kind was completed in February 2010.

"The goal was to locate and identify any narcotics located within the school," Brillon said.

Attleboro resident Patti Tibnam said she was surprised by the number of police cars at the school including one from Randolph and another from Barnstable.

"We were taking our dog to the vet and noticed a line of police cars. There were marked and unmarked cars–about 15 to 20 of them," she said. "You could see cops walking in the parking lot."

The Attleboro Police were assisted by K-9 units from the Bristol County Sheriff's Office, Barnstable Sheriff's Office, Norfolk county Sheriff's Office and the Massachusetts Dept. of Corrections. Other departments included Foxboro, Quincy, Nantucket, Weymouth, Scituate, Mashpee, Brockton and Randolph. iFebruary 2010.
