Attleboro Man Charged with Assault With Intent to Murder After Alleged Drive-By Shooting

Matthew Marcotte, 20, of 41 Dunham St was arrested Monday after a nearly week-long investigation.

An Attleboro man is facing a slew of charges, including assault with intent to murder, after he was allegedly involved in a drive-by shooting on Holden St. last week.

According to Attleboro Police Sgt. Detective Arthur Brillon, Matthew Marcotte, 20, of 41 Dunham St. was arrested Monday after an "intense" nearly week-long investigation into the discharge of a firearm at approximately 10:30 last Tuesday night, Aug. 6.

Marcotte was charged with assault with intent to murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, possession of a firearm without a license to carry, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of ammunition without a license to carry.

He was arraigned in Attleboro District Court Tuesday. According to the Sun Chronicle, he pleaded innocent and was held without bail.

Brillon said identifying and arresting Marcotte was a team effort. The investigation over the past week was led by Sgt. James MacDonald, Det. Stephen Beaudet, and officer Ronald Goyette.

On Monday, members of the Problem Oriented Policing unit James Miller and Ayman Kafel uncovered "important information" that lead to Marcotte's eventual arrest.

"Once they had brought the investigation to a point where they could make an arrest, officers Stephen Graney, and John Heinz of the Problem Oriented Policing unit were able to locate him in a car, pull the car over and the arrest was affected," Brillon said.
