Attleboro Man Arrested in Connection with Murder at Mansfield Apartment Complex

Knight Avenue resident arrested in Boston hospital days after allegedly shooting and killing a Brockton man at a Mansfield apartment complex.

An Attleboro man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of 22-year-old Brockton resident Aderito Cardoso, District Attorney Sam Sutter and Mansfield Police Chief Arthur O'Neill announced Tuesday night.

Tyerell Charles, 20, of 154 Knight Ave., was receiving treatment for a "non-life threatening" gun shot wound at a Boston hospital when he was arrested. Charles and Cardoso were both transported by helicopter to two different hospitals after police found them unconscious early Saturday morning at the home of Nicole Baker, 22 of Mansfield.

After receiving several 911 calls for shots fired, Mansfield Police responded to the Village at Mansfield Depot, an apartment complex located at 2904 Francis Ave., Saturday around 3:42 a.m. When they got there, police and rescue personnel found both men unconscious in a hallway.

O’Neill said several people were at the apartment at the time of the shootings, but earlier reports of a baby in the apartment were incorrect.

“The baby was with the grandparents in Chicopee”, said O’Neill.

Charles is charged with murder and will be likely be arraigned in Attleboro District Court on Wednesday. Assistant District Attorney Aaron Strojny will detail the case during Wednesday's expected arraignment.
