A South Attleboro man was arrested Saturday night on Route 3 in Richmond, R.I. after driving with a reported blood-alcohol level that is more than four times higher than the legal limit. This was the third DUI arrest for 43-year-old Thomas J. Eaton.
An off-duty Connecticut state trooper contacted the Rhode Island State Police about Eaton's suspicious driving at 6:10 p.m., according to a press release from Rhode Island police. Troopers located and stopped the vehicle.
Eaton's blood-alcohol level measured at .362 percent on the first test and .356 percent on the second one, according to the release. The legal limit in Rhode Island is .08 percent. Eaton was arrested on suspicion of DUI and driving on a suspended license.
Rhode Island police reported Eaton was also arrested on suspicion of DUI in Westerly in 2005 and 2008.
"We commend our troopers and the off-duty Connecticut state trooper for staying vigilant and preventing a serious or fatal crash," said Col. Steven G. O'Donnell, according to the release.
