Truck Driver Suffers Electric Shock on I-95

The freeway closes in Attleboro for more than two hours.

An unidentified man was sent to  Thursday afternoon after he suffered electric shock on Interstate 95 in Attleboro when he got out of his truck that had struck sagging power lines on the freeway, according to Massachusetts State Police. The incident caused the freeway to close in both directions for more than two hours.

Two tractor trailers moving on opposite ends of I-95 struck the sagging power lines at about 3 p.m., according to state police. Both vehicles stopped after striking the lines.

The driver of the northbound truck got out of the vehicle and suffered electric shock. His name was not released and his condition is unknown, although he was not killed, a state police spokesman said. The southbound driver, 55-year-old David Meltz of Prospect Hill, N.C., was not injured.

At least four other passenger cars were damaged during this incident, according to state police. The incident is under investigation. 

The closure of the freeway led to a traffic overload in Attleboro as drivers were forced onto the city's streets to find alternate routes, witnesses said. The freeway lanes were reopened at 5:30 p.m.
