No need for City to buy unusable land
A proposal was presented to the City Council to purchase over 73 acres of empty, depleted-of-resources land off Handy Street. This land has sat empty for over forty years. It is largely what is known as "hardpan", meaning the surface is like ledge rock; i.e., worthless. IT IS A POOR IDEA FOR THE CITY TO BE WASTING MONEY to turn this land into the inevitable attractive nuisance. WE SHOULD AND MUST THINK OF THE NEIGHBORS. ALSO, the City has enough land to manage already----it doesn't need more.
