Obituary: Norman Robbie, Jr.

Norman Robbie, Jr., 86, of Hope Street Extension, Attleboro, died on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved and cherished husband of the late Joan W. (Whitelock) Robbie to whom he was married in 1962 and who died in 2000.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island on November 2, 1926, he was the only child of the late Norman Robbie, Sr. and Mary (Milroy) Robbie. Both parents were immigrants from Scotland and he never lost touch with his Scotish and customs.

Raised and educated in South Boston, he was a 1945 graduate of South Boston High School.

Mr. Robbie was a veteran of the United States Army having first served during World War II from 1945 – 1947 and during the Korean War era from 1955 – 1959.

He was employed for more than twenty years at Texas Instruments in Attleboro as a furnace operator prior to his retirement in 1991.

Mr. Robbie was previously employed by the General Dynamics Shipyard and the Boston Naval Shipyard as a sheet metal operator and at Western Electric.

In 1970 he moved to Attleboro from his native South Boston.

He attended Second Congregational Church in Attleboro.

Mr. Robbie was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War – Post 115, Attleboro; the American Legion – Post 312; was a life member of the Bristol Lodge AF & AM of the Masonic Order and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star – Angle Stone Chapter 118 in North Attleboro.

His favorite times were those spent creating woodworking projects but his most treasured times were those spent with his loving family creating memories to cherish for a life time.

Mr. Robbie leaves his four loving children: Norman Robbie III of Attleboro; Douglas A. Robbie of Bellingham; Lynne M. Case of Attleboro and Heather E. Sherry of Attleboro; eight grandchildren: Nichole, Danielle and Derek Robbie of Bellingham; James and Philip Case of Attleboro and Kelsey, Mitchell and Rachel Sherry all of Attleboro and several extended family members and dear friends.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veteran’s Honors on Friday, January 11, 2013 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the “Memorial Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home – the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on the left) Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

Ritual services will be conducted by the Bristol Lodge AF & AM during visitation.

Children’s room available during visitation.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral service with Veteran’s and Bagpiper Honors on SATURDAY, January 12, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the “Memorial Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home – the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on the left) Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. F. Vernon Wright, Pastor of the Second Congregational Church, Park Street, Attleboro, officiating.

Burial with military and bagpiper honors will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.
