Obituary: Grover C. Young

Grover C. Young was a member of the United States Navy during World War II and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.

Grover C. Young, 84, died on Wednesday, May 15, 2013.

Born in Attleboro on July 6, 1928, he was a son of the late Grover C. and Mary (McQuade) Young. He was the widower of Evelyn (Sousa) Young. He is survived by his longtime companion and fiancée Eleanor Kennedy of Attleboro.

Grover was raised in Attleboro and attended local schools. He served his country proudly as a member of the United States Navy during World War II and received the World War II Victory Medal. He worked in the oil burner industry prior to his retirement. Grover was a member of the Elks Lodge of Attleboro.

He enjoyed spending time by the Cape Cod Canal and spending winters in St. Petersburg, Florida.

In addition to his fiancée, he is survived by his brother Paul and his wife Jackie Young, several nieces and nephews, and Eleanor's children; Linda Newbury, Cynthia Cote, and Kathy Drapeau. He was the brother of the late Bernard, Walter, Milton, Melvin, Henry, and Dorothy Young. 

Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, May 19, from 4-6 p.m. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 20, at 10:30 a.m. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home.

Mr. Young will be laid to rest with full military honors in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
