No Holiday Parade for Attleboro This Holiday Season

After more than two decades of hosting the city's Holiday Parade, organizers pulled the plug.

There will be no honking firetrucks and no waving from parade goers. Why?

The , who have organized the event for more than two decades, had to pull the plug on the annual because of lack of attendance, according to Parks and Forestry Superintendent Sonny Almeida.

An email went out to past parade marchers and no one responded, Almeida said.

Attleboro Girl Scout Leader Kendelle Aronson said she spoke with the people at the Parks Department a couple weeks ago. "She had told me they didn't have many responses from their inquiry about who would be interested in marching in the parade," Aronson said of Parks and Forestry Department. "She was disappointed, but was trying to organize something at the park instead."

And that they did. "There will be the tree lighting at the Newell Shelter by Mayor Kevin Dumas, Santa will be there and there will be hot cocoa and cookies," Almeida said. The 4-H Club will offer pony rides and Ed Liston of will offer hayrides for kids.
